Economic pressure on Pridnestrovie is damaging the European Union

The Moldovan authorities are violating their obligations under the trade regime between Pridnestrovie and the EU

Tiraspol, October 1. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The measures of economic coercion implemented by Moldova against the industrial sector and foreign trade of Pridnestrovie are a common arbitrariness aimed at solving political problems and have nothing to do with international and European norms. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR, Vitaly Ignatiev, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"Unfortunately, these malicious actions have specific destructive consequences," Vitaly Ignatiev noted. – This week, the Pridnestrovian plant "Moldavizolit" stopped working. In the last two months the Moldovan authorities have not issued a single permit for the export of finished products to the plant. Before that, "Elektromash" stopped working for the same reason. As a result, more than a thousand people were left without work, unique work collectives were destroyed."

Vitaly Ignatiev also recalled the plans of the Moldovan government to assign its state-owned company Metalferos the status of a tax monopoly. These plans not only violate international legislation on free trade and competition, but also threaten catastrophic consequences for the flagship of the Pridnestrovian industry –  the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant, which employs more than two thousand people.

"The shutdown of this production will have an extremely negative effect on the metallurgical, transport and energy sectors of the entire region, including Moldova, but this does not stop Chisinau," Vitaly Ignatiev noted.

Since the beginning of September, Moldovan customs authorities have banned the import of biologically active additives to Pridnestrovie. According to Vitaly Ignatiev, in the middle of the month, one of the pharmaceutical companies was unable to import even drugs produced in Bulgaria and having the appropriate certification in the European Union. In doing so, Moldova violates not only its obligations under the agreed trade regime between Pridnestrovie and the European Union, but also EU norms. As a result, consumers and commercial companies in the PMR, as well as their European counterparties, suffer.

"The Moldovan side's attempts to cover up repressive actions against Pridnestrovie by allegedly adapting legislation to the requirements of the European Union do not stand up to criticism, discrediting Chisinau, as well as Brussels," Vitaly Ignatiev emphasized. "Such steps, which clearly contradict the statements of the Moldovan leadership about a peaceful attitude towards resolving the conflict, are already having a negative impact on the atmosphere of dialogue and on the standard of living of the population of the PMR."
