Tiraspol, December 2./Novosti Pridnestrovya/. In Tiraspol Office of the OSCE Mission on the initiative of the Pridnestrovian side specialists of the PMR and the RM discussed the import of medicines to Pridnestrovie in the context of the joint customs and border control of Moldova and Ukraine at the Kuchurhan crossing point.
According to the press service of the MFA of the PMR, this was the first meeting on this issue in the last 9 months.
“The Pridnestrovian side again outlined its approaches on ensuring uninterrupted supply of medicines to the PMR, based on the System and needs of the pharmacological market and patients of Pridnestrovie”, the Foreign Ministry noted.
The experts also discussed possible options for the organization of interaction between the parties, which would allow preserving the access of the population of the PMR to the widest possible list of medicines.
The parties agreed to continue the discussions in the near future.
Since 2017, a joint customs and border control of Moldova and Ukraine has been in operation at the Kuchurhan crossing point. Tiraspol has repeatedly stressed the politicized nature of the joint control project threatening the foreign economic activity of Pridnestrovie, freedom of movement and security.
One of the negative consequences was the problem of medicines import to Pridnestrovie: the customs officers of the Republic of Moldova blocked the corresponding cargoes going to the PMR. The Pridnestrovian side advocated the preservation of the established order of import of medical cargo. This procedure, according to Tiraspol, should be reflected in the relevant agreement, which will allow providing the population of the PMR with the necessary medicines.
International partners also recognize the seriousness of the import problem. In April of this year, an OSCE expert in registration and import of medicines Michael Morris was sent to study the problem.
