SLOVAKIA SUPPORTS STRENGTHENING OF TIRASPOL AND CHISINAU DIALOGUE

A lot of relevant issues remain in the socio-economic and humanitarian area in the relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova

Tiraspol, April, 16. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Slovakian OSCE Chairmanship has spoken in favor of continuing the constructive dialogue between Pridnestrovie and Moldova and is counting on concrete steps to maintain positive dynamics in the conflict resolution process.

“Thanks to ... political will, last year both parties implemented five agreements that yield concrete results toward the people, such as agreements on neutral number plates ...” OSCE press service quoted the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of Slovakia, Miroslav Laychak.

According to the Slovak diplomat, in order for this positive dynamic to continue, Chisinau and Tiraspol "must intensify the dialogue, work to complete the Berlin Plus package and define new areas of joint work."

Pridnestrovie also insists on the need to speed up the dialogue at all levels.

“Expert group meetings are not always valuable. There is a lack of political impulse from the Moldovan partners. Therefore, we need to intensify cooperation at all levels of the “5 + 2” format,” Vitaly Ignatiev, PMR Foreign Minister said during a recent meeting with the Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Gubarev.

Now, a lot of relevant issues remain in the socio-economic and humanitarian area in the relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. It preserves the importance of telecommunications and politically motivated criminal cases, joint control of Moldova and Ukraine on the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian border, as well as issues of banking interaction.

Miroslav Laychak discussed the situation surrounding the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova during his January visit to Pridnestrovie with the head of state Vadim Krasnoselski and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovie Vitaly Ignatiev. Then, following the meeting, Laychak said that his team would like to find a solution to all issues on the negotiation agenda until the end of 2019, while Slovakia was heading the OSCE.

“We have an accurate understanding of what needs to be done and what steps to take,” the OSCE Chairman-in-Office stated then in Tiraspol. The diplomat also noted that as soon as the parties achieved concrete results on those and other issues of the negotiation agenda, Slovakia would be ready to convene a meeting in the “5 + 2” format. There were even designated approximate terms - until the summer of 2019.
