PMR MFA: Pridnestrovie will inform the participants of the "5+2" format that the Republic of Moldova is blocking humanitarian gas

The situation was discussed at a meeting between Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev and Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov

Tiraspol, January 17. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova Oleg Ozerov, who arrived in Pridnestrovie today on a working visit, the press service of the Foreign Ministry writes.

The meeting took place as part of a discussion of current challenges, including the energy crisis. The diplomats focused on Chisinau's actions, which impede humanitarian supplies of natural gas to Pridnestrovie.

As Vitaly Ignatiev noted, the actual blocking of gas supplies is at odds with the declarations of the Moldovan leadership and has a negative impact on both the population and the prospects for the republic's industry.

Such approaches are an instrument of pressure and provoke a humanitarian catastrophe, which contradicts the recommendations of international mediators, the head of the PMR MFA is sure.

During the meeting, the ambassador was informed that Pridnestrovie plans to inform all participants in the "5+2" format about the inadmissibility of Moldova's actions aimed at blocking gas supplies.

Vitaly Ignatiev and Oleg Ozerov agreed to maintain constant contacts on topical issues of the negotiation process and bilateral cooperation.

The negotiations on the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement in the "5+2" format involve Chisinau and Tiraspol as parties to the conflict, Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE as mediators, the European Union and the United States as observers.

Let us recall that on January 1, due to the termination of Russian gas transit through the territory of Ukraine and the unsettled financial relations between PJSC Gazprom and JSC Moldovagaz, gas supplies to Pridnestrovie were interrupted. As a result, gas supplies to villages and private residential buildings in cities, heat and hot water supplies to apartment buildings have been terminated, and rolling blackouts are in effect. Due to the crisis situation in the energy sector, a state of emergency has been declared in the PMR.

On January 15, PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky announced that Russia would soon begin humanitarian gas supplies to Pridnestrovie. An agreement on this was reached at the level of the Russian Ministry of Energy. However, recent events show that gas supplies are encountering opposition from Moldova, which seeks to aggravate the humanitarian crisis in the PMR.
