State Duma calls for suspension of joint Moldo-Ukrainian border control

This is a direct violation of agreements reached within the negotiating process, round table participants believe

Tiraspol, 8 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Russia's State Duma is calling upon the Ukrainian authorities, the Moldovan government, the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE to implement peacekeeping initiatives and prevent the defrosting of the conflict, which may lead to a humanitarian disaster, says a draft of guidelines proposed by participants of a roundtable discussion held in the State Duma, RIA Novosti reports.

One of the main demands is to repeal or suspend the implementation of joint Moldo-Ukrainian border and customs control over the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian border as it directly violates of the agreements reached within the negotiating process, ignores Pridnestrovie's stance and blocks the discussion of this issue in the «5+2» format.

The document outlines the need to ensure the full-fledged operation of the Slobodka-Kolbasna railway border crossing, including for the transit of petroleum products, and work out, based on Pridnestrovie's proposals, an optimal mechanism for the import of goods for Pridnestrovie's domestic consumption.

The Moldovan government is proposed to take measures to put an end to politically motivated prosecution against officials and ordinary citizens of Moldova and Pridnestrovie and lift the banking blockade of Pridnestrovie.

As Novosti Pridnestrovya has already reported, the State Duma's committee on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and compatriots is holding today a round table discussion titled «Ukraine's influence on the situation around Pridnestrovie». The event is attended by State Duma members, as well as a Pridnestrovian delegation, including government members and Supreme Council speaker Alexander Scherba.
