Public opinion indignant with Valery Litskay's statement about PMR's potential integration with Moldova

This is what Pridnestrovie's ex-foreign minister said at a conference in Kishinev

Tiraspol, 27 August. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovie's ex-foreign minister, Valery Litskay, took part in a conference in Kishinev «Declaration of independence. 25 years later: past, presence, future» at which he categorically opposed the ultimate separation between Pridnestrovie and Moldova.

«Are we capable of getting separated? One day Kishinev and Tiraspol politicians meet and say: 'On our mutual consent and the consent of people we are launching tomorrow a process of divorce.' As was the case with, for example, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. This is possible both theoretically and technically, but does the people really need it, and will it make the world more secure and happier? I think, categorically not," the First Pridnestrovian TV channel cites the statement Litskay made at a conference organised by the For Motherland public council, which unites over 70 public organisations in Moldova.

The statement made by Pridnestrovie's ex-foreign minister has brought a sharp reaction in Bendery, the city that lost hundreds of residents during the war with Moldova.

«Valery Litskay, a former foreign minister of Pridnestrovie, was fired at one time by Igor Smirnov for alcohol abuse. Today, on the tide of election [campaign], he wants to infuse his own spirit. The situation is as follows: only 25 years has passed. Those who lost their relatives have not healed their wounds yet. No one of the Moldovan government has ever apologised for what had been done, for the bloody terror in Bendery," said the chairman of Bendery's Union of Public Organisations, Joseph Geris.

Valery Litskay believes there exists a certain symbiosis now — Pridnestrovie and Moldova. «Will it last long? I can say each symbiosis develops. And it develops at best into cooperation — a confederation, federation or a union. In other words, proceeding from pragmatism, one can create more and more developed associations. I can say that Ukraine's events have inspired more fear and optimism to me. The Ukrainian events are so tragic and long-term that we can get into Moldova in an expedited manner," Litskay believes.

At the same time, the ex-minister does not take into consideration the results of the 2006 referendum, at which the majority of Pridnestrovians voted for Pridnestrovie's independence and its subsequent free accession to Russia.

«Does he not remember and know what the people said, what they talked about. In other words, he refers to a certain people that would agree to a certain reunification. The people expressed its opinion at three referendums that we want to be with Russia, want to be independent," said a member of the praesidium of the Union of Pridnestrovie's Defenders, Svetlana Gede.

«If earlier, when speaking out as an expert, Litskay said that we supported Russia, that we wanted to stay together with Russia, in this case he has revealed his true face, though it was no secret to me back 26 years ago. He has always opposed the independence of the PMR, which he confirmed yesterday," said Viktor Dyucarev, a Supreme Council member in 1990−2000.

Earlier, Russian media outlets and the web site of the information and analytical project Russian Planet in particular reported that today former foreign minister Valery Litskay is an adviser to Chairman of the Supreme Council Vadim Krasnoselsky.

The formula of «civilised divorce» with Moldova was put forward by President Yevgeny Shevchuk in 2013 during an international conference in Germany. This very «civilised divorce» must become a key to a problem solution and lead to a fair conflict settlement.
