Tiraspol, March 26. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Blockades, threats, blackmail and pressure from Moldova have accompanied Pridnestrovie for more than 30 years, but in recent years the political and economic pressure from Chisinau has become even tougher, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Stetsyuk noted at the international conference “Pridnestrovie in the realities of geopolitical confrontation: blockade - 2024” .
According to him, the reason for this was global instability and a security crisis in the region, which allowed Chisinau to strengthen the policy of pressure on Pridnestrovie using various methods: economic and financial sanctions, blocking of medicines and medical equipment, criminal prosecution of citizens, etc.
“In the conditions of full-fledged work of “5+2” format, the current inadequate behavior of Moldova would be unthinkable, and at the very first international event a debriefing would be carried out on the merits,” Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie Alexander Stetsyuk said.
The international format “5+2” is an international system of dialogue in which Pridnestrovie as a subject has equal rights along with Moldova, has the right to vote and initiative. That is why Chisinau is trying to break the international negotiation mechanism, hiding behind either the pandemic or the Ukrainian conflict, Stetsiuk explained.
He emphasized that today Moldova has an extremely weak position in the negotiations: it has violated the vast majority of agreements and practically nullified any trust, while Chisinau is unable to formulate any clear constructive agenda.
“Because of this, the Moldovan leadership is afraid and by all means avoids direct and honest political dialogue with Pridnestrovie, not only in the 5+2 format, but also at the bilateral level,” Stetsyuk said.
According to the diplomat, in recent years “there has been a total dehumanization of Chisinau’s approaches and position.”
“Sooner or later, the conditions for a broad dialogue will develop and we will still have to return to the negotiating table in order to agree on the parameters of our further coexistence with neighboring Moldova. But after everything that the Moldovan authorities are doing now, they do not have the slightest moral right to claim anything or declare their claims to Pridnestrovie,” Stetsyuk said.
