Vitaly Ignatiev called on EUBAM to help reduce tension between the Republic of Moldova and the PMR

The head of the PMR Foreign Ministry called the actions of the Moldovan authorities an economic war against Pridnestrovie

Tiraspol, February 21. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Economic sanctions of the Republic of Moldova led to double taxation and became an additional burden for Pridnestrovian business. This was emphasized by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev during a meeting with the head of EUBAM Slawomir Pihor. The unjustified introduction of customs duties by Moldova in relation to Pridnestrovie became the main topic of the dialogue.

As the press service of the PMR Foreign Ministry reported, the head of the foreign policy department described the repressive measures taken by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova as an element of economic war.

“We have agreements with the Moldovan side, which were violated. We have a special trade mechanism with the EU, which is also being grossly violated due to the introduction of these destructive measures. We have consequences that indicate a drop in trade and economic turnover with European countries,” Vitaly Ignatiev said.

The situation in the Pridnestrovian economy is complicated by the banking blockade, which has created obstacles to obtaining preferential certificates, including when trading with EU countries. As a result, there is a significant drop in the PMR's foreign trade turnover, tax revenues are reduced and a budget deficit is formed. Inhumane acts of economic aggression of the Republic of Moldova lead to violation of the rights and freedoms of people living in Pridnestrovie, the diplomat stated.

During the discussion, topics related to blocking the export of industrial enterprises of the PMR and limiting the import of drugs and medical equipment for medical institutions in Pridnestrovie were also touched upon. The Foreign Minister called on EUBAM to help reduce tension and normalize economic interaction.

“I appeal to you as a mission that deals with the issue, including cross-border cooperation, trade and economic interaction, to make efforts to prevent further escalation of the situation. To prevent violations of people's rights and interests, since economics is the basis. Business should have free conditions for development, and not be artificially limited,” Vitaly Ignatiev noted.

Transport issues were also touched upon separately. The head of the Foreign Ministry spoke in favor of an early resumption of work at vehicle registration points in Tiraspol and Rybnitsa in accordance with the 2018 Protocol Decision. He also outlined the inadmissibility of restricting the movement of cars registered in Pridnestrovie across the territory of the Republic of Moldova, taking into account the content of the 2015 EUBAM technical conclusion and the agreed upon VRP mechanism.
