Chisinau is committed to European values only in words

Vitaly Ignatiev commented on the policy of the Moldovan authorities

Tiraspol, November 24. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Official Chisinau does not hurry to implement the recommendations of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the European Union, which relate to the current “law on separatism.” The adoption of this law, which allows any resident of Pridnestrovie to be brought to responsibility, actually undermines the negotiation process. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“It is noteworthy that a number of international participants, including the OSCE and the European Union, gave their negative opinion regarding the repressive legislative norms adopted in the Republic of Moldova, which potentially threaten any resident of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. However, in practice, despite daily declarations about the “European path,” Chisinau does not hurry to implement European recommendations,” Vitaly Ignatiev noted.

The head of the Foreign Ministry of the PMR noted that over the past month the Pridnestrovian side has several times taken the initiative to hold meetings of experts from Chisinau and Tiraspol: on motor transport, economics, ecology, and banking interaction. According to him, representatives of Moldova ignore these proposals.

“Under the conditions of the so-called law on separatism adopted by the Moldovan parliament, the Republic of Moldova refuses to provide appropriate guarantees to Pridnestrovian officials, which further complicates the holding of meetings. Especially on Moldovan territory,” Vitaly Ignatiev said.

The “Law on Separatism” was adopted by the Moldovan Parliament in February of this year. The PMR Foreign Ministry stated that Moldova thus is undermining the negotiation process of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement.
