The Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministry urged OSCE to prevent relapsing into conflict

Vitaly Ignatiev descibed the current situation in relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova as anxious and dangerous

Tiraspol, December 02 /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. According to the PMR MFA press service, today the PMR Foreign Affairs Minister Vitaly Ignatiev met with the head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Claus Neukirch. The main theme was the current situation in the negotiation process.

The Foreign Minister stressed the OSCE’s systemic attention to the dialogue but admitted that it cannot compensate for the actual communication’s disappearance with the RM at the level of the parties’ leadership as well as representatives on political issues.

“Vitaly Ignatiev, commenting on the negotiation process’s general degradation as well as the Chisinau unwillingness to participate in the work, described the whole situation as anxious and dangerous, calling on the OSCE to assist in preventing the situation from relapsing into conflict,” the PMR Foreign Ministry noted.

Special attention was paid by the minister to the Pridnestrovian transport blockade, cars, which owners have been expecting the opportunity to return home from Ukraine and transit through the country.

The other themes of discussion were aspects related to the bank blockade, and the necessity to revise EU restrictions on the export of scrap metal for the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant production necessities, provoked by Moldova was discussed.

The issue of the former Pridnestrovian militia officer Andrei Samoniy fate, who was illegally convicted and held in detention on the RM’s territory was also raised.

According to Vitaly Ignatiev, regarding the joint customs and border control (JCBC) problem at the Kuchurgan checkpoint, it was stated that there were no agreed mechanisms for medicines, plant protection products, equipment, and other goods’ categories import. In such context, JCBC’s second phase launching from January 1, 2022, will have critical consequences for the negotiation process.

The diplomats also exchanged views on other aspects related to the negotiation process, including possible steps to normalize the current situation. Vitaly Ignatiev informed the interlocutor in detail about the Pridnestrovian side’s immediate plans related to the necessity to find any solution, to improve discipline in dialogue, and return Chisinau to the negotiating table.
