SCC analysts: market share of food suppliers alternative to Sheriff rising

According to SCC information, the Sheriff company has begun to import lees food, whereas other suppliers have increased their import operations

Tiraspol, 16 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. According to the information of the State Customs Committee (SCC), food supplies to Pridnestrovie have not at all decreased, but rather risen.

«Since January 2016 the country has seen an upward trend in the import of goods by legal entities, with 2% growth against last year," the deputy head of the SCC analytical department, Natalya Tarapata, in an interview with the First Pridnestrovian TV channel.

The increase in imports has also been registered by the Ministry of Economic Development.

«In the period from 1 January to 12 May 2016, in volume terms 25.7 million items of goods were imported to the country at the amount of $30.152 million. At the same time, in comparison with 2015, the imports have increased by 9.7% in volume terms," explained the first deputy minister of economic development, Inna Linnik.

The SCC also notes a decrease in the share of the Sheriff company's food imports, which used to reach 80%. After the withdrawal of exclusive rights and trade preferences, which Sheriff had enjoyed until 2012, the number of enterprises engaged in foreign economic operations has risen by 40%. It is emphasised, in the meantime, that the number of individual entrepreneurs in this sector has also increased manifold.

«It should be noted that there currently appear new alternative food suppliers, whose import share is constantly rising and is equal to 53% at the moment," concluded Natalya Tarapata.
