Tiraspol, 11 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Supreme Council deputies show no real interest in foreign policy issues, Pridnestrovie's first lady, Nina Shevchuk, told Russian online-newspaper Svobodnaya Pressa. She underscored that in the period when she was in charge of the MFA lawmakers had been requested on numerous occasions to submit their considerations on pressing foreign policy issues, offer relevant and deliberate solutions.
«I personally voiced such a request at a meeting of the parliament's foreign policy commission. Besides, we sent several letters with the same requests to the leadership of the Supreme Council. There was no reply. Unfortunately, the MFA did not receive any proposals or critical remarks," said Nina Shevchuk.
According to her, the acting foreign minister, Vitly Ignatyev, is also open to a dialogue, but «there is no feedback anyway». «There are populist, scandalous declarations made by MPs without going into the root of problems," said the first lady.
At the same time, she noted, the Pridnestrovian side on several occasions brought up for discussion in the 5+2 negotiation format the issue of the monitoring and implementation of agreements signed with Moldova, and Pridnestrovie's stance was backed by mediators, but every time Moldova obstructed progress in this direction.
However, despite Moldova's systemic failure to abide by signed agreements, Pridnestrovie should not unilaterally denounce them.
«The unilateral denunciation of existing agreements, in my view, is fraught with serious consequences as it may undermine the fundamentals of the negotiation process, break its consistency and continuity. Moreover, the Moldovan chief negotiator is often changed and every time he tries to start a dialogue with a clean slate. It should be understood there is a great deal of work performed by relevant ministries' experts behind every agreement, and only then come diplomats. To do this work anew means to take the negotiation process back for several decades," she underscored.
