Duty-free export agreement is a test for Pridnestrovie, Moldova and EU

According to the deputy foreign minister, the agreement can be disrupted by establishing joint Moldo-Ukrainian checkpoints at the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian border

Tiraspol, 7 December. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The establishment of the joint Moldo-Ukrainian border control over the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian border may lead to a significant deterioration of relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova, said the deputy foreign minister, Dmitry Palamarchuk on First Pridnestrovian Channel.

«Pridnestrovie and the MFA regard the implementation of the agreement on the joint border and customs control at the Kuchurgan checkpoint as a very perilous decision which is threatening to «black out» Pridnestrovie's economy and, consequently, the negotiation process," said the deputy minister.

According to him, such unilateral decisions are especially perilous when Pridnestrovie and the EU will have to implement the agreement on the retention of duty-free treatment to the Pridnestrovian exports going to the EU.

«The consensus that Pridnestrovian exporters may enjoy duty-free trade relations with the EU in 2016 and subsequent years is a very important test for Pridnestrovie, the EU, and Moldova as it will show if we will be able to fulfil the obligations under this agreement," said the deputy minister.
