Moldova's defence minister orders to topple Soviet tank monuments

"Today the republic has different values, and such monuments must be displayed at museums," said the minister

Moldova has begun to topple Great Patriotic War monuments. On instructions from the defence minister, Anatol Șalaru, a monument to the legendary T-34 tank was dismantled and taken away in the territory of a military unit.

«We can't use such symbols for training our military. There are such tank monuments across Europe as the reminder: if you do not behave yourselves, that's what we have to restore order," clarified Anatol Șalaru, who represents the pro-Nato Liberal Party. He noted that «today the republic has different values, and such monuments must be displayed at museums.»

According to TASS, the defence minister has declared for the dismantling of five more tanks which were set up in Moldova's cities as monuments to the Soviet warriors who defeated Nazism.

The toppled T-34, which participated in the liberation of the republic from Nazism, will be sent to the museum of «Soviet occupation». This museum is going to be established on the initiative of the Liberal Party, where Anatol Șalaru takes up the post of vice-chairman.
