The president supposed that «regular statements about the transformation of peacekeeping into peace guaranteeing operation are made by Moldova to please those who really govern the country.»
«Under circumstances when we cannot reach a consensus on a whole range of important elements of cooperation in the sphere of economy, citizens' movement, our principled stand is the transformation of the peacekeeping operation is not reasonable. This may pave way for a new war. Then you should come forward and say frankly: we want to fight you. We had representatives of the so-called peace guaranteeing mission back in 1992, but, when the war began, they quickly fled," said the president. «Someone may do verbal exercises, but for us the peacekeeping operation is a real instrument to protect our citizens' lives.»
The president said the revision of peacekeeping mechanisms is appropriate only after a comprehensive formula of a political solution to the conflict between Tiraspol and Kishinev is found.
«We expect very much that our Moldovan partners will be consistent in these issues and will not make more problems which may further destabilise the situation," underscored the president.
