Military exercises in Moldova will be held simultaneously with mourning events in Pridnestrovie

The activity of the Moldovan military causes concern among residents of the PMR, notes Oleg Belyakov, co-chairman of the JCC from Pridnestrovie

Bendery, June 13. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Next week, mourning events will be held in Pridnestrovie on the occasion of the Day of the Bendery tragedy - on June 19, 1992, Moldovan militants invaded Bendery despite agreements on a peaceful resolution of the conflict. At the same time, regular military exercises will take place in neighboring Moldova. Let us note that in the last few years they have been going non-stop, involving more and more military units - including from NATO countries. The exercises, in particular, are taking place in close proximity to the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian border. This state of affairs is always a reason for concern, says Oleg Belyakov, co-chairman of the Joint Control Commission from Pridnestrovie.

“The Moldovan side does not stop its military activities. Including near the Security Zone. Peacekeeping battalions, other contingents of the security forces of the Republic of Moldova, etc. are still involved there. People have a certain association and memories associated with the events of 1992. The exercises themselves begin on June 17 and the mourning events in Bendery on June 19, all this raises such a certain comparison and the question: what is Moldova preparing for?” – he told reporters following the results of today’s JCC meeting.

The Peace Shield 2024 exercise in Moldova will be held from June 17 to 28. At the same time, in connection with preparations for the Fire Shield 2024 exercises, military equipment will be transferred there in June along public roads.

“We have a tragedy, we remember those people who died during the fighting, died from illnesses and wounds, and at the same time we see a certain aggression that is happening near our borders. This, of course, causes some concern, and we are still talking about it,” Belyakov noted.
