Vitaly Ignatiev: It is not only important to support the 5 + 2 format, but also to work within it

The PMR Foreign Minister believes that it is possible to start with informal meetings

Tiraspol, January 29. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Declarations of support for the 5 + 2 negotiation format are important, but it is no less important to work directly in this format. This was stated in an interview with the First Pridnestrovian TV channel by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie Vitaly Ignatiev.

In his opinion, there are "no problems in organizing the work of the 5 + 2 format in an unofficial mode as soon as possible."

“We worked this way, for example, from 2006 to 2011 or from 2014-2015. I believe that we have every reason to intensify the work supported by international participants,” the PMR Foreign Minister said.

It should be noted that the 5 + 2 negotiation format, which includes Pridnestrovie, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE, the European Union, and the United States, has not been functioning since the autumn of 2019. The Pridnestrovian side has repeatedly spoken about the need to activate it.

This week, US Ambassador to Moldova Kent Logsdon, on the air of one of the Moldovan TV channels, said that the United States supports the 5 + 2 negotiation format and considers it the only mechanism for finding a peaceful solution to the conflict between Pridnestrovie and Moldova.

Also this week, a meeting was held between the political representative of the Republic of Moldova, Oleg Serebryan, and the Russian Ambassador to Moldova, Oleg Vasnetsov, at which the parties noted the importance of maintaining the 5 + 2 format as an uncontested multilateral dialogue platform.
