Tiraspol, 25 January. / Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Moldova has been integrated into the NATO system long ago and is part of this system despite the formally declared neutrality in its constitution. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie Vitaly Ignatiev during the round-table meeting "Development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation with compatriots in modern geopolitical realities" in the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.
He drew attention to the fact that since 2006 Moldova has been constantly extending its strategic plans for cooperation with NATO. At the same time, over the last year, the pace of militarization of the neighboring country has sharply increased: the military budget has doubled, a batch of German Piranha armored fighting vehicles has arrived in the Republic of Moldova, significant funding is being allocated through the European Union and the United States. In 2023, Moldova is planning to increase military spending by another 50%.
“An EU center for internal security and border management has been created in Moldova, the Frontex mission which allows European police and other special forces to be on the territory of the Republic of Moldova is operating,” Vitaly Ignatiev recalled.
The head of the PMR Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that Chisinau’s actions aimed at the withdrawal of Russian troops and the destruction of the peacekeeping operation, that maintains peace and security on the banks of the Dniester.
“Of course, we have reasonable fears why the country, which is today in a state of unresolved conflict, is arming and militarizing,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie noted.
