American politician proposes to unfreeze the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict

According to former Adviser to the US President John Bolton, NATO should move more actively towards the borders of Russia, including through Moldova and Ukraine

Former US President's National Security Advisor John Bolton proposes to unfreeze the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict. In his National Review (USA) article on NATO's eastward expansion and confrontation with Russia, he says that it is time to do it.

“Moldova, squeezed between Ukraine and Romania, is a frozen conflict, ready to be “unfreezed ”. The supposedly independent Pridnestrovie, invented by Russia, only exists apart from Moldova thanks to Moscow's continued military presence. Merely drawing global attention to this post-Cold War anomaly would shock the Kremlin, while a determined new Government in Chisinau is now giving Washington an opportunity to intensify its actions,” he was quoted by InoSMI web publication.

He proposes to carry out the same provocation in relation to Abkhazia and South Ossetia. This would increase Georgia's chances of becoming part of the North Atlantic Alliance.

“Similarly, it is time for Georgia to resist the Russian presence in Abkhazia and South Ossetia in order to recreate the situation that existed in April 2008, when Ukraine and Georgia’s NATO membership was considered quite seriously and possible,” the American conservative politician said.

But perhaps his main concern is Belarus. Bolton admits that this is "the most difficult challenge of all", but "no matter how difficult it is, the United States cannot unequivocally give Belarus to Moscow." In this regard, he notes that “NATO needs more “coverage” of Belarus and its Eastern European members should play an important part in this”.
