Moscow, April 8. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Russian peacekeepers` withdrawal from Pridnestrovie is currently impossible, the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky said in an interview with the IIA Russia Today.
“This scenario is inconceivable. When they ask such questions, I counter with my own question: what do politicians see in peacekeepers? If someone sees "little green men" or an armed force, then they have their own conclusion about the peacekeepers. I see peacekeepers as people who preserve peace on our land, those who ensures that there is no deaths among civilians, those who create a platform for future negotiations,” Vadim Krasnoselsky stressed.
The Head of State noted that Pridnestrovie has a special attitude towards peacekeepers. Today they are the guarantor of the two republics` peaceful coexistence.
“If we take Moldova, sometimes hawkish conclusions, nationalist attacks on us are heard there, and this is a fact. Revanchism has not gone anywhere yet. Thus, the peacekeeper must do his job,” Vadim Krasnoselsky concluded.
Let us remind you that in July 1992 Russia stopped the armed aggression of Moldova against Pridnestrovie. Prior to that, several conciliation commissions, including those with the participation of international representatives, tried to stop the war on the Dniester. However, the observer mission was unable to prevent the attacks of the Moldovan armed formations on Bendery in June 1992. The bloodshed only stopped with the Russian peacekeepers` arrival.
The peacekeeping operation under the auspices of the Russian Federation has been implemented in Pridnestrovie since 1992 on the basis of interstate agreements. It is recognized as one of the most successful in history: since the beginning of its operation, hostilities have not resumed, not a single participant in the peacekeeping mission has died. In addition to the Russian Federation, the parties to the conflict, PMR and RM, as well as a group of military observers from Ukraine take part in it. The peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is formed from the Operational Group of Russian Forces in Pridnestrovie.
At the same time, all these years Moldova has been making attempts to withdraw Russian peacekeepers from Pridnestrovie. This, in particular, has been repeatedly stated by the current President of the Republic of Moldova, Maya Sandu. Her statements were supported by NATO. The organization General Secretary, Jens Stoltenberg, said that Russia allegedly violated the "territorial integrity of Moldova" by deploying peacekeepers in Pridnestrovie.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly noted that the withdrawal of the peacekeepers was only possible after the settlement of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict.
Earlier, the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky said that any attempts to destroy the existing peace guarantee mechanism could lead to the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict rollback to the situation of the early 90s. Due to the lack of proper public legal relationship, Pridnestrovie and Moldova do not have a comprehensive agreement that would exclude the possibility of resuming direct military confrontation, Vadim Krasnoselsky explained.
