It was suggested that the final exams for Pridnestrovians studying in Moldova be abolished

Earlier, the PMR Foreign Ministry called the demand to take exams discriminatory, at a time when they were abolished for students from the Republic of Moldova due to COVID-19

Tiraspol, June 18. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Ministry of Education of Moldova proposed amending the law of May 21, which abolishes the final exams (BAC) due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The Office insists on the complete abolition of exams due to the worsening epidemiological situation because of a new coronavirus outbreak.

Under the current law, graduates of high schools and colleges of Moldova were exempted from exams. Pupils with failed academic assignment or bad grades, as well as students from Pridnestrovie have to take BAC after the “zero” course at the university.

Moreover, the Ministry of Education determined an examination session for July, despite the worsening epidemiological situation. This caused a burst of resentment among Pridnestrovian students in Moldova. They noted that they were afraid to take the BAC at the time when the COVID-19 situation got out of control in Moldova and when there were more than 400 cases recorded per day.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie affiliated to the problem. The Foreign Ministry said that the Moldovan side’s demand to take exams was discriminatory. The Pridnestrovian side raised the issue in expert (working) groups and carried out the necessary diplomatic work.

The Ombudsman for Children of Moldova, Maya Benerescu, called that attitude towards Pridnestrovians discriminatory. She pointed to discriminatory rules back in May, before the law was adopted, yet her words fell on deaf ears in the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldova.
