Vitaly Ignatiev met with Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Thomas Mayr-Harting

The meeting participants discussed the problems associated with the non-performance of recent years agreements by Moldova

Tiraspol, June 17. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR, there was held a meeting of the head of the department Vitaly Ignatiev and Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Thomas Mayr-Harting. The meeting was also attended by the head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Claus Neukirch.

The press service of the PMR Foreign Ministry reports, that welcoming the guests Vitaly Ignatiev noted that interaction of Pridnestrovie with the OSCE Mission and the current Albanian Chairmanship was proactive and fast-paced in nature.

“In the present circumstances, relations within the framework of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement have developed new regimes and formulations associated with the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic. This, of course, was a certain test both for interaction with the Moldovan side, and for contacts in the framework of the negotiation process, and – to use the words of our President - a kind of exam for Moldovan-Pridnestrovian relations as a whole,” the Minister said.

According to him, proactive position of the international participants in the settlement is even more important under the current conditions.

“I would like to express my gratitude for your involvement, monitoring of the situation, for the initiatives and ideas that we have outlined in the framework of recent times, and for the attempts to keep our interaction relevant at different levels. Pridnestrovie agrees fully with this approach, we endeavor to use every opportunity to give dynamics to the negotiation process,” the Foreign Minister stressed.

In the framework of the meeting, thorough views were exchanged regarding the current state of affairs in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova. The state of existing pressing problems was analyzed in the framework of a dialogue between the parties related to the failure to fulfill Moldova's obligations stipulated by the agreements of recent years.

Diplomats also paid attention to the current situation in the fight against coronavirus infection. The interlocutors agreed that the restrictive measures introduced during the quarantine period were objective and compulsory and were applied in most regions of the world affected by the pandemic.

The interlocutors also provided a brief overview of the current situation and approaches to telecommunications, politically motivated criminal cases, and banking problems. The prospects of the negotiation process for the next two months were discussed separately with an eye to the possible holding of the next round of the “Permanent Meeting ...” in the 5 + 2 format.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors agreed to continue systematic working communication on the full range of relevant areas.
