Tiraspol, November 12. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. In an interview with Tsargrad TV Channel, President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky told about the difficulties of Russian citizenship acquisition the Pridnestrovians having a passport of another state (Moldova or Ukraine).
According to him, due to international non-recognition, many Pridnestrovians were forced to acquire citizenship of neighbouring states in order to be able to cross the border.
Vladimir Krasnoselskiy noted that today about 220 thousand citizens of Russia live in the PMR. But all residents of the republic would like to get a Russian passport.
“We feel like Russians. However, we cannot obtain Russian citizenship. Even Russian citizens cannot obtain a medical certificate. We all are compatriots. But we have the problem of having other passports – Moldovan, Ukrainian. When the Soviet Union fell apart, there were difficulties obtaining a Russian passport. The mechanisms did not immediately work”.
According to Vadim Krasnoselskiy, in Pridnestrovie, it is possible to apply a formula under which it is possible to obtain Russian citizenship without renouncing foreign passports of other countries.
“Now they (citizens of the PMR – ed.) cannot get Russian passport without giving up other citizenship, which, in principle, is impossible for certain reasons. And these people are being pushed out of the Russian world”, Vadim Krasnoselsky noted.
