Bendery, April, 4. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. At the JCC another meeting, the Moldovan delegation again raised the issue of the functioning of border posts in the Security Zone. According to the Pridnestrovian side, this topic is seen as a reason for speculation and confrontation in the framework of a peacekeeping operation governing body.
“We are alarmed by attacks on the border guards who perform exclusively law enforcement functions. They solve crimes, apprehend criminal offenders and wanted persons. If they appear in the form of mobile police, this is exclusively related to their law enforcement activities. The JCC should cooperate with them, but not raise a point of their presence,” the JCC Co-Chair from Pridnestrovie, Oleg Belyakov stressed.
He reminded that the Moldovan border guards, although they are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, perform the same law enforcement functions. At the same time, according to him, the Moldovan side does not comment on the strengthening of the law-enforcement component and the force component in any way.
“For example, a whole battalion of police officers is already in Varnitsa, and an additional 124 weapons entered in the Ustye police station. For what purpose?” the Co-chair asked.
He reminded that Pridnestrovian border guards, in turn, are serving in the Security Zone without weapons.
“The border guards have been assuming their functional responsibilities since 1993, and the Pridnestrovian side is not going to take any crucial decisions,” Oleg Belyakov said.
Also at the JCC meeting, the report on the situation in the Security Zone has been noted, and a new military observer from the Russian Federation was approved. Within the framework of the implementation of the decision of 2007, the parties adjusted the number of law enforcement posts in the Security Zone. Now there are 23 of them in Moldova and PMR.
