President: new blockade conditions are being created for Pridnestrovie

At a meeting with the head of the OSCE Mission, Vadim Krasnoselsky said that the next phase of joint Moldo-Ukrainian control at the Kuchurgan checkpoint jeopardises the economic security of the PMR

Tiraspol, 19 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovie appreciates the OSCE's attention as a mediator in the negotiation process, in which it is necessary to remain committed to dialogue and avoid any destructive unilateral steps, Pridnestrovian President Vadim Krasnoselsky said at a meeting with the head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Michael Scanlan.

As reported by the presidential press service, Vadim Krasnoselsky stressed the importance of the practical implementation of the earlier decisions and outlined the areas where bilateral work is underway.

According to the president, progress in the negotiation process can be significantly complicated. The new challenge is the launch of the next phase of joint Moldo-Ukrainian control at the Kuchurgan checkpoint.

"On 17 April, at the branch of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova in the city of Causeni, Moldovan customs officers held a meeting with our businessmen, during which they announced the second phase of joint customs control in Kuchurgan. Earlier, Moldovan politicians, including Moldovan President Igor Dodon, said that there would be no restrictions on moving through this post and that this issue had nothing to do with the economy. Problems have begun to arise today. Yesterday a cargo of medications was detained without giving any reasonable explanation. It was later released 'as an exception'. It is planned to introduce control over individuals who carry out entrepreneurial activities. That is, the real levers of pressure are used. By and large, new blockade conditions for the existence of Pridnestrovie are being created," said Vadim Krasnoselsky.

According to him, the economic security of the country is under threat. A meeting of the Security Council of the PMR on the issue of joint control is to be held soon to discuss further actions and possible retaliatory measures, the adoption of which will be required under a various succession of events.

"Pridnestrovie is showing economic growth: exports and imports are growing. This gives grounds to say that we are able to solve social and economic issues on our own, that we are self-sufficient. We have a social budget; we implement it. And what is happening today can negate our efforts, the success that has already been achieved," said Vadim Krasnoselsky.

Michael Scanlan, in turn, highly appreciated the dynamics of the dialogue in the negotiation process and stressed that he shared the optimism of the Pridnestrovian side regarding the prospects for reaching new agreements. The head of the OSCE Mission drew attention to the high productivity of technical experts and political representatives of the parties.

The meeting participants also discussed other topical issues related to the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova.
