Vadim Krasnoselsky discusses Moldo-Pridnestrovian negotiations with Aleksey Pushkov

According to the Russian MP, he has never heard his European counterparts say that Pridnestrovie should renounce its status and become part of Moldova

Tiraspol, 3 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovian President Vadim Krasnoselsky met the chair of the interim commission on information policy, member of the committee on constitutional legislation of Russia's Federation Council Aleksey Pushkov.

The interlocutors discussed the current international and regional processes that influence the situation in Pridnestrovie and around the country, as well as the course of the negotiation process between the PMR and Moldova and the implementation of the agreements signed last year, the presidential press service reports.

According to Vadim Krasnoselsky, today the working (expert) groups focus on the solution of non-political issues of practical importance for people living on both banks of the Dniester.

Aleksey Pushkov approved Pridnestrovie's course and noted the positive attitude of European states towards the settlement of the Moldo-Pridnestrovian conflict. He added he had never heard his European counterparts say that Pridnestrovie should renounce its status and become part of Moldova.

"The European political culture has adopted the position that Pridnestrovie should have special political status. Therefore, attempts by some forces in Kishinev to resolve the issue by force do not find support in Europe because no one wants a crisis in the south-eastern region," the MP said.

Aleksey Pushkov called Pridnestrovie a significant point of European politics and noted that the country belongs to those regions that had remained in the zone of unsettled conflicts after the collapse of the USSR. Speaking about the decisions taken at the time by the Pridnestrovians, he stressed the high degree of their political maturity.

Vadim Krasnoselsky and Aleksey Pushkov also discussed the historical and legal basis for the independence of Pridnestrovie. The Russian parliamentarian was interested in the prerequisites for the creation of the country and the grounds for proclaiming its independence and asked about the current situation.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors agreed to continue the dialogue in the future.
