Tiraspol, August 2. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Change of the peacekeeping mission on the Dniester is possible only in case of a joint decision by both Chisinau and Tiraspol. Otherwise, there will be an escalation of the Moldo-Pridnestrovian conflict. It was told by the director of the Peacekeeping Initiatives and Conflict Resolution Studies Research Institute Denis Denisov.

«Change of the peacekeeping format can be considered only within the bilateral discussion among representatives of Pridnestrovie and Moldova. All other formats are unacceptable. If the Moldovan side decides to use the experience of the Ukrainian neighbors in resolving similar issues independently, it can only result in escalation of a conflict. I think, the consistent and hard-line stance of Russia in the issue of peaceful settlement of the Moldo-Pridnestrovian conflict will serve its purpose after all, and the peacekeepers will continue carrying out the mission in Pridnestrovie as it is one of the key factors of the regional security," the Russian expert considers.

Denis Denisov also noted that the present power in Moldova consisted of 'the people with kinda radical views', so it is entirely possible that having the aim of expelling the peacekeeping contingent from the conflict zone in mind, the authorities of RM will try to engineer different provocations intended to, as Moldovan politicians think, reintegrate Pridnestrovie into Moldova.

«However, in practice it can only result in escalation of the conflict, general destabilization in the region, and it will do harm to the population of both Moldova and Pridnestrovie," Denisov noted.
