Tiraspol, 13 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today is a very exciting day for 20 kids and their parents as a special commission will select only ten of them for a trip to Serbia's international children's camp School of Friendship.
All these boys and girls aged 10−12 nave become the finalists of the contest «Catherine the Great. The Golden Age of the Russian Empire», which began on 1 April and has been held in several categories: an essay, a picture, a 3-D applique' work and a poem. The young authors were able to express their views of the era during which Pridnestrovie became part of the Russian Empire. The contest is held by Russia's Dniester-Prut Centre and Pridnestrovie's Ministry of Public Education.
According to the director of the Dniester-Prut Centre, Igor Shornikov, the study of that epoch forms a clear understanding of the historical relationship between Russia and Pridnestrovie and explains to the rising generation why Russia is a mother state for us and why Pridnestrovie is inseparable from the greater Russian world.
Winners are selected very carefully as such trips are not only recreation for children, but also the representation of Pridnestrovie in the international arena. Besides Serbian and Russian children, the summer camp is attended by Bulgarians, Macedonians and other nationals.
«The distance stages of the contest were held in all cities and districts of the country. Over 100 kids took part in the distant stage and only the best of them have qualified for the republican stage. And today 20 finalists will be interviewed to determine the 10 winners who will go to the School of Friendship," said Anastasiya Chibuk, an education ministry spokesperson.
The kids will spend an eventful and exciting week in the summer camp. The main part of this year's forum is the cultural and educational programme Serbian Code under which Russian-speaking children learn Serbian and Serbian children learn Russian.
All the way to Serbia the children will be accompanied by a teacher and a doctor.
It is already the third time that Pridnestrovian schoolchildren have taken part in the international school.
