Tiraspol, February 20. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. It is necessary to continue to make every effort to resume the full-fledged work of the international negotiating format 5 + 2, which, in addition to Pridnestrovie and Moldova, includes Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE as mediators, as well as the EU and the USA as observers. This was stated by President Vadim Krasnoselsky at today's Collegium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR.
"Without this /the 5 + 2 format/, it is impossible to talk about a Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement. This is the platform where the parties can express their thoughts and propose models of solutions," the head of the Pridnestrovian state emphasized.
According to the President, it is now both possible and necessary to assemble the 5 + 2 negotiating format. The main reason why the format does not work is not geopolitical upheavals (as they are trying to present the matter in Moldova), but Chisinau`s reluctance to sit down at the negotiating table. Vadim Krasnoselsky recalled that the activities of the 5 + 2 format were disrupted in 2019 by the Moldovan authorities, and at the same time they sharply strengthened the banking blockade against the PMR.
"The format was disrupted precisely because these issues were supposed to be discussed there. They /representatives of Moldova/ would have been asked: “Why are you doing this?” This, of course, was scary for them: there are no arguments, there is just direct pressure with the desire to destroy the Pridnestrovian economy. We really interfered with Moldova in this format, because Pridnestrovie was an equal subject there, it had the right to vote, nothing was decided without us," the PMR President emphasized.
Vadim Krasnoselsky added that as the head of state, he is ready to meet in the 1 + 1 format with any officials for one thing - to continue the dialogue on the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement, to build it and to discuss the pressing problems that have accumulated. "A lot in the world could have been avoided if there had been a normal negotiation process. This applies to all continents, not just Pridnestrovie and Moldova. Compromise is not a surrender of interests, but a movement of the parties towards each other, based on dialogue, which I constantly call for," the head of state said.
Let us recall that the work of the 5 + 2 negotiation format has been frozen since autumn of 2019. Pridnestrovie has repeatedly proposed reviving the negotiation platform, starting, for example, with informal diplomatic consultations, but so far these efforts have not yielded results.
