Tiraspol, February 27. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. In order to ensure equal and respectful dialogue between Tiraspol and Chisinau, it is necessary to resume the full-fledged work of the internationally recognized 5 + 2 format on the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement.
This opinion was expressed in his interview with journalists by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Moldova Oleg Ozerov.
"We emphasize the need to maintain the internationally recognized framework for the Pridnestrovian settlement," the Russian diplomat noted.
Let us recall that the negotiation process for the settlement of the conflict between Pridnestrovie and Moldova officially began on April 28, 1994. These negotiations involve Tiraspol and Chisinau as parties to the conflict, Russia, Ukraine and the OSCE as mediators, the European Union and the United States as observers.
Over the past 5 years, the format of the Permanent Conference on Political Issues within the Framework of the Negotiation Process on the Pridnestrovian Settlement has been in a state of deep stagnation. It has not met since autumn of 2019. One of the main reasons is the unpreparedness of the Moldovan side for a full-fledged dialogue.
At the end of 2019, Moldova blocked the adoption of the final declaration within the Bratislava meeting of the 5 + 2 format (another name for the negotiation format), and since then, every year Chisinau finds various reasons not to convene it.
At the same time, relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova have deteriorated sharply in recent years due to numerous discriminatory steps by the Moldovan authorities.
