Tiraspol, 26 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Ukraine needs to reinforce the blockade of Pridnestrovie to remind the West about itself and draw its attention, State Duma member Sergey Chizhov is convinced.

«Peter Poroshenko's team want to draw the maximum attention of Brussels and Washington to their problems because this attention has recently weakened. So they are trying to anger Russia in various ways — by creating serious problems for the country and its citizens, by opening a second front, along with the Donbass one, of geopolitical confrontation," the information portal Chetyre Pera [Four Feathers] cites Chizhov as saying.

The MP noted that any pressure on the state, and especially an economic blockade, primarily affects ordinary citizens and that sanctions are counterproductive, «which has already been shown by similar measures taken by the West against Cuba or, say, Iran.»

«The Russians don't abandon their own people. So we are providing Russian citizens living in Pridnestrovie with everything necessary, «underscored the Russian politician.

According to Chizhov, the State Duma will soon host a round table discussion on Ukraine's influence on the situation around the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The problems of Pridnestrovians, among whom are thousands of Russian citizens, will be discussed with the involvement of representatives of the PMR, Russia and Moldova.

On 20 May 2017 Ukraine put a ban on the transit of goods subject to veterinary control through Ukraine to Pridnestrovie, which is now possible only upon Kishinev's approval. This follows from a letter that Pridnestrovie's agricultural ministry received from Ukraine's State Agency for Safety Food and Consumer Protection.

The letter says that the ban was initiated by the General Directorate of Counterintelligence Protection of National Economic Interests under the SBU. According to the Ukrainian counterintelligence authorities, this decision is aimed at «localising national security threats».

These new rules introduced by Ukraine may result in additional transport and financial costs for economic agents. They complicate the procedure for the processing of documents permitting goods delivery to the PMR and may cause difficulties in delivering these cargoes through the crossing points between Ukraine and Pridnestrovie.
