Tiraspol, 22 September. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. A regular meeting between Pridnestrovian President Yevgeny Shevchuk and Russia's deputy prime minister, special envoy on Pridnestrovie, Dmitry Rogozin, took place on Thursday, 22 September. After signing the Rogozin-Shevchuk protocol in 2013, such meetings have become regular. The protocol has embodied a number of projects in the sphere of economy, infrastructure and culture. Russia has financed the construction of social facilities in the health care and education sectors, helped to purchase medical equipment and undertaken the reconstruction of the Pridnestrovian land reclamation. RT managed to talk to Yevgeny Shevchuk a few minutes after the meeting.
Yevgeny Shevchuk said the meeting was fruitful. «This meeting centred on the development of the protocol, on socio-economic issues, on regional and republican.»
He was not very optimistic about the settlement of the conflict with Moldova, writes the publication. «A settlement is real only when both sides are interested in it and if it is possible to refuse the ideology of blocking, sanctions and various restrictions. When all this becomes a thing of past, there will be a basis for extensive economic cooperation. And only then it will be possible to discuss more complex questions. In this situation, it is difficult to speak about a time frame because our partners may change the approach. The current situation is affecting Pridnestrovie. Including relations with the European Union and sanction policy. Relations between Russia and Ukraine are also influencing Pridnestrovie through increased pressure in the transport sphere and logistics. All this leads to a deterioration in the living standards of Pridnestrovie's ordinary citizens. We hope the situation will change in a constructive way. First of all, among the countries involved in the negotiations," said the head of state.
RT journalists asked the president about the upcoming elections in Pridnestrovie. «Candidates are still registered, and the final list is not known yet. I think there are many decent citizens Pridnestrovie who may take part in the presidential campaign and assume this post," he said.
Answering a question about his preferred winner in the US presidential elections, the president noted he did not care at all as he had already decided on his preference. «Between Trump and Clinton I prefer Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin," said the president.
As Novosti Pridnestrovya has already reported, President Yevgeny Shevchuk will give a news conference on 23 September in MIA Russia Today's international press centre.
President Shevchuk will focus on the current Russo-Pridnestrovian cooperation and international security, as well as economic issues, prospects for small and medium-sized businesses.
