President briefed about current state in negotiations between PMR and Moldova

Vitaly Ignatyev: "Unfortunately, the dynamics of negotiations is very low so far"

Tiraspol, 31 August. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. President Yevgeny Shevchuk has held a working meeting with Acting Foreign Minister of the PMR Vitaly Ignatyev, the presidential press office reports.

The foreign minister briefed the president on the current state in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova.

«Unfortunately, the dynamics of negotiations is very low so far. There have been refusals by the Moldovan side to communicate at the level of expert working groups and political representatives. The problem of railway import also remains unsettled. In this connection we continue working to liven up cooperation, including in the format of the 'permanent conference'," said the acting foreign minister.

Vitaliy Ignatyev expressed hope that Pridnestrovie's initiative to hold an extraordinary 5+2 meeting, which is still under consideration by the international partners, would meet their approval.

«There is a whole set of acute socio-humanitarian problems which are still unsettled," said the minister, adding that according to the ministry's information, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Cord Meier-Klodt is to visit Pridnestrovie to discuss problematic issues of the Moldo-Pridnestrovian dialogue.

The president emphasised the necessity of putting on the agenda a solution to a number of practical problems worsening the lives of citizens and concerning, first of all, free movement of motor cars and lorries, passenger transportation.

Yevgeny Shevchuk instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to articulate at international forums railway communication problems which restrict the Pridnestrovian railway's ability to deliver cargoes by its own rolling stock.

«The closure of the Kuchurgan-Export and Slobodka-Export railway stations is a counter-productive step. And taking into account that the railway agreement expires by the end of this year, we'd like to obtain a distinct and clear-cut position by our 5+2 format partners of these destructive actions, proceeding from the postulate we have adhered to over the past five years. It [the postulate] says that none of the sides have the right to take actions aimed at worsening the position of the opposite side," said the president.

Following the meeting, Yevgeny Shevchuk charged the foreign ministry to intensify negotiations with Ukrainian and Moldovan colleagues «in order to achieve understanding necessary to solve economic and citizens' problems.»
