Tiraspol, 6 July. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Ukraine poses a greater threat to Pridnestrovie than does Romania. This is what Russia's Vice Premier Dmitry Rogozin said during a briefing for journalists, when answering a question about an increased number of military drills in Moldova and unsanctioned flights performed by Romanian aircraft over Pridnestrovie.
The Russian politician noted that despite its ambitions, Romania is a NATO member and bound by mutual obligations with other members, which is why it is unlikely to take any aggressive actions against Pridnestrovie on its own.
«It will not take actions violating in any way NATO's solidarity," said Dmitry Rogozin.
He pointed out that Romania's actions aimed to create international tensions justifying the necessity of keeping NATO, which lost its only rival after the collapse of the USSR and, consequently, the meaning of its existence.
«There is nothing behind it, besides justifying its existence. NATO should have been dismissed long ago, which I repeatedly told about," underscored Dmitry Rogozin.
According to Russia's vice premier, it is Ukraine that is posing a much greater threat today. Dmitry Rogozin noted that while Ukraine's elite is «in the state of psychosis» caused by the civil war, there is a possibility of provocations prepared by Ukrainian radicals. According to Rogozin, Moldovan servicemen may also be involved in these provocation, thus framing up Moldova.
The vice premier noted that he had urged Moldova's leadership to be more cautious in maintaining contact with Kiev.
Nevertheless, according to Dmitry Rogozin, Russia is monitoring the situation on the Pridenstrovian border and is ready to come to rescue. An additional factor securing the PMR's safety is the presence of Russian peacekeepers.
«I talked to them yesterday. They are in good spirits. They are tough guys. They feel secured and comfortable. All the problems related to the attempts to block the supply of military uniforms, food products and all the rest have been resolved together with Pridnestrovian partners. Nobody will let you be offended," said the presidential envoy.
