Tiraspol, 16 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. During a working visit to the Russian capital, Pridnestrovie's acting foreign minister, Vitaly Ignatyev, met the chairman of Russia's State Duma committee on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and compatriots, Leonid Slutsky.
The main topic of discussion was the situation around Pridnestrovie amid intensified pressure on the part of neighbouring states. Special attention was given to the existing restrictions in the spheres of trade, freedom of movement, railway transportation, and the inadmissibility of joint Moldo-Ukrainian control at the Kuchurgany checkpoint, the MFA's press office reports.
The meeting participants agreed to implement a number of simultaneous measures aimed, first of all, at stabilising the situation in the sphere of bilateral trade cooperation. In particular, Vitaly Ignatyev enlisted the Russian lawmaker's support in holding joint events on the sidelines of the 4th Pridnestrovian Investment Forum, which is scheduled for May.
They also discussed some promising steps to boost cooperation between the two countries in the expert and information sphere.
At the initiative of Vitaly Ignatyev, the interlocutors touched upon the current problems of the peacekeeping operation, carried out in Pridnestrovie under the auspices of the Russian Federation. They emphasised the necessity to hold a round table discussion within the framework of Russia's State Duma to work out practical instruments providing organisational, information and other support to the unique peacekeeping mechanism.
