Tiraspol, 16 February. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. We need meetings in 5+2 format not only for the sake of holding meetings, but for the sake of actual work. Special Envoy of an Acting OSCE Chairman-in-Office Cord Meier-Klodt expressed such opinion during an interview with journalists following the results of his visit to the Pridnestrovie's foreign policy department.
The diplomat noted that "we need to do everything we can to reanimate and reinvigorate the settlement process at all its necessary levels". "My hope and my determination is to reestablish the political format 5+2 at the earliest possibility. But let me add immediately it's not for the sake of just having the format, but to do real work and reinstitute political value of that forum", – the Special Envoy declared.
Also, Cord Meier-Klodt emphasized, in order that the dialogue in the 5+2 format had been meaningful, it was necessary to carry out a large-scale preparatory work, i.e. the sides have to make progress in negotiations on the most important issues as trade, transport and other spheres.
"That is why we insisted on the active work of the working groups and most importantly of the direct lively open dialogue between the chief negotiators of so-called format 1+1 because it is there that the necessary substance will be decided upon, and which we can work upon, and with which we can further our political efforts," the Special Envoy stated.
We will remind, the meetings between the political representatives from Moldova and Pridnestrovie haven't been held since October, 2015 within the 1+1 format due to the de facto refusal of the Moldavan side to participate in them.
