Greek court releases Pridnestrovie's law enforcer Maxim Kuzmichev

Moldova has been denied the extradition of the Pridnestrovian citizen

December, 7 November. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. During the hearing of 1 December, the Greek court refused to extradite Pridnestrovian citizen Maxim Kuzmichev to Moldova, following which he was officially released. At the moment, the Pridnestrovian officer is in the Russian capital — Moscow.

Pridnestrovie's MFA has commented on the Greek court's decision.

The Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministry expresses official gratitude to Russia's ministry of foreign affairs, UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, current OSCE Chairmanship and OSCE Mission to Moldova «for the efforts made over the period of four and a half months that aimed at safeguarding the legitimate interests of the Pridnestrovian citizen and releasing him.»

The MFA's statement notes that «the Greek court's decision based on a broad list of documents and papers submitted by Pridnestrovie is the convincing legal confirmation of Maxim G. Kuzmichev's innocence. The refusal to extradite Maxim G. Kuzmichev to Moldova shows that his prosecution in Moldova is illegal, politically motivated, far-fetched and «designed'.”

Pridnestrovie's MFA has also expressed hope that «the release of Maxim G. Kuzmichev in full compliance with the democratic norms and standards of the Greek legislation will catalyse the efforts aimed at terminating criminal proceedings based on the principles of openness, mutuality and reasonable compromise.»

«Pridnestrovie has long proposed to resume the cooperation towards the termination of the politically motivated criminal charges brought against the Pridnestrovian officials, businessmen and ordinary citizens," says the statement.

Pridnestrovie's MFA is calling on Moldova to «refrain from making insinuations, careless allegations and attempts to justify, including in the mass media, the use of legal tools to exert pressure on Pridnestrovie.»

It is recalled that Pridnestroviann citizen Maxim Kuzmichev was arrested in Athens on 20 July 2015 as he had been put on the international wanted list by Moldova.
