RISR to continue monitoring Pridnestrovian developments despite Moldova's obstacles

This statement has been published on the institute's official website

Tiraspol, 26 November. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Moldovan authorities continue to pursue a discriminatory policy aimed at isolating Pridnestrovie from information and scientific media. It follows from an official commentary made by the Russian Institute for Strategic Research on another incident taking place at Kishinev airport. We recall that on 18 November RISR senior fellow A.M. Shevchenko was detained and thoroughly interrogated at Kishinev airport on the purpose of his travel to Moldova.

«At the same time, he was categorically told to refrain from visiting Pridnestrovie. Moreover, a security agent said if they knew that a RISR employee would come to Tiraspol to participate in the scientific conference, he would be denied entry to Moldova," says the RISR statement.

The approach of the Moldovan authorities is that only private visits to Pridnestrovie are allowed — seeing relatives and friend.

The RISR says that it is not the first time when the Moldovan authorities restrict or deny entry to Moldova for Russian citizens, which demonstrates they have not taken into account numerous warnings sent by Russia about inadmissibility of violating accepted international norms regarding freedom of movement.

«Amid the present escalation of the political situation in Moldova and loss of the country's international reputation, some people in Moldova are trying to strengthen their political image before their foreign patrons," says the RISR, adding that the institute reserves the right to continue its scientific and research duties, «including the monitoring of the developments in Pridnestrovie».

We recall that seven days after the above-mentioned incident, Russian historian, head of the Balkan department of the RISR, Nikita Bondarev, who arrived in Kishinev on S7 flight 157 was deported back to Russia from Kishinev airport.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that «Pridnestrovie independently establishes parameters for cooperation with international representatives in academic, information, political and other spheres and does not accept Moldpva's interference in the issues whose decision is the sovereign right of Pridnestrovie.

Another irrational attempt by Moldova to isolate Pridnestrovie from information, expert and academic exchanges is a clear example of Moldova's lack of confidence in its own political approaches, its desire to withhold information on the actual situation in Pridnestrovie from foreign partners, as well as evidence of Moldova's commitment to a conflict paradigm in the dialogue," underscores the MFA press service.
