Foreign minister: Moldova rejects non-discriminatory approach

Vitaly Ignatyev has informed the president about the measures taken to resolve the issue of Pridnestrovian vehicles participating in international road traffic

Tiraspol, 14 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. President Vadim Krasnoselsky discussed topical foreign policy issues with foreign minister Vitaly Ignatyev, the presidential press servicereports.

Ignatyev informed the president about the measures taken to resolve the issue of Pridnestrovian motor transport participating in international road traffic. Thus, a meeting of expert (working) groups was held in Kishinev with the involvement of international representatives.

"There is a conceptual block diagram on which we are working. There are certain positions of the parties. Unfortunately, we cannot so far come to a common understanding on a number of fundamental issues. The main problem is that Moldova disclaims a non-discriminatory approach and is not yet ready to consider all Pridnestrovian residents as [international traffic] participants, regardless of their citizenship," said Vitaly Ignatyev.

In addition, the foreign minister said there were some discrepancies on issues related to determining the parameters of vehicle registration. They are the subject of an actual discussion among participants of expert (working) groups.

The next meeting, according to Vitaly Ignatiev, will be held tomorrow, 15 March, in Kishinev. A day later, on Friday, a meeting with the participation of the political representatives will take place in Tiraspol. The foreign minister noted that during the talks the parties ask international partners for consultations and expert opinions.

Also, Vadim Krasnoselsky was interested in progress in resolving the banking issue. Vitaly Ignatiev informed him about the readiness of the parties to seek for a way out of the current predicament.

A dedicated working group will start its work in the near future. The leadership of the Pridnestrovian government and foreign ministry held a meeting with the Permanent Envoy of the World Bank in Moldova.

"This is her first visit. We have outlined the perspective parameters of cooperation. During the meeting, I identified interbank cooperation as one of the areas in which World Bank experts could join in the work," said Vitaly Ignatyev. He said that Pridnestrovie had prepared a package of recommendations.

Work is also under way to provide the apostille verification of university diplomas issued in Pridnestrovie. As the Moldovan colleagues have told Pridnestrovian diplomats, an amendment will come into force on 15 March to launch a new [apostille] mechanism.

Vadim Krasnoselsky also discussed with the foreign minister the upcoming visit to Tiraspol of a delegation headed by Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Franco Frattini, which is scheduled for 27 March.
