Tiraspol, 22 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovian diplomats are working to resolve the situation with the prohibition of the transit of goods subject to veterinary control to the PMR across the Ukrainian border.

«The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR is cooperating with other state authorities to work out possible solutions to the current problem. As you know, the Security Council met last Friday to discuss possible mechanisms for addressing this issue which are proposed to negotiate with Moldova and Ukraine," the head of the ministry's PR department, Yakov Chaykin, told Novosti Pridnestrovya.

According to the MFA's spokesman, Pridnestrovie has addressed Ukraine through diplomatic channels, but no response about the reasons for such a negative decision and the ways of addressing the problem has been received yet.

The ministry has already informed about the situation both Russian partners and all parties to the «5+2» format.

As the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has explained to Novosti Pridnestrovya, this is precisely the ban on the transit of food products subject to veterinary control across Ukraine's border if their transit has not been approved by Moldova's National Agency for Food Safety.

«This includes fish, meat, animal products, as well as food and supplements for pets, veterinary medications," said the chief veterinary inspector of the PMR, Andrey Vislovsky.

According to him, the ban does not apply to other product groups. The ban does not apply to the products manufactured in Ukraine, either.

It was announced on 19 May that Ukraine put a ban of the transit of goods subject to veterinary control without Kishinev's approval. According to Andrey Vislovsky, there are already several applications that Ukrainian authorities have refused to approve.

«Of the latest applications, two have not been approved," noted the inspector.

The new Ukrainian rules may result in additional transport and financial costs for economic agents. «The new rules complicate the procedure for the processing of documents permitting goods delivery to the PMR and may cause difficulties in delivering these cargoes through the crossing points between Ukraine and Pridnestrovie," noted the inspector.

Besides, since earlier Pridnestrovie's veterinary and phytosanitary department of the agricultural ministry directly cooperated with their Ukrainian colleagues, there is no mechanism today to file transit applications to the Moldovan customs authorities.
