Tiraspol, April 19. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The legislative initiative of MPs Andrey Safonov and Igor Buga «About changes in the Electoral code of the PMR» has been considered at the today’s meeting of the special-purpose parliamentary committee. The proposed changes concern reduction of the voter turn-out at the presidential election to 25% of the electoral register. Currently, this turn-out is fixed at the level of 50%. During the discussion of the bill, the problems in the field of migration and demography and also the experience of other states have been mentioned.

Also it has been emphasized that obligatory voting turn-out at parliamentary election amounts to 25% then.

«In this context, it should be noted that the elections to the Pridnestrovie's representative bodies of power on November 29, 2015 have shown that the voter turnout at the local elections in some districts and cities of the republic has been less than 50% of voters included in the electoral registers», — it is written in the explanatory note.

MPs believe that these changes in the Electoral code «will make a positive impact voters' legal consciousness, will reduce risks of declaring the upcoming presidential elections invalid».

The bill has been recommended for passing by the Supreme Council session.
