The Russian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova condemned the act of vandalism at the WWII memorial in the village of Gura Bicului, Moldova

Tiles were broken on the Great Patriotic War military monument

The Russian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova condemned the act of vandalism at the Great Patriotic War military burial in the Gura Bicului village of the Novoanensky region of Moldova, which was restored with the Russian participation last year.

The diplomatic mission reminded that that wasn't the first time something like that had happened: "Repair and restoration work was carried out three times at the memorial: in 2005, in 2012 after an act of vandalism, and last year after rechecking the lists of those killed in the area."

This time, the vandals broke facing tiles on the plinths of the complex. The granite slabs and the seven-meter obelisk remained inviolated.

“Such a cynical act is particularly outrageous, since there took place one of the most fierce fights near the Gura Bicului village during the Great Patriotic War, where more than 2 thousand Soviet soldiers gave their lives, while 18 participants of the battles were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Separately, we note that the sacrilegious act is offensive for the residents of Russia, from the budget of which there were allocated funds for the restoration of 16 military burials on the territory of the Republic of Moldova in the anniversary year of 2020,” the message of the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova on Facebook says.

The Russian Embassy called on the local authorities and the leadership of Moldova to investigate the crime and restore damaged plinths.
