OSCE Special Representative for Moldovan-Pridnestrovian Settlement arrives in Tiraspol

Thomas Mayr-Harting`s visit is planned for the next week

Tiraspol, January 14. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office on Moldovan-Pridnestrovian Settlement Thomas Mayr-Harting`s visit in Tiraspol is scheduled for the next week. This was reported to the press by the head of the PMR Foreign Ministry Vitaly Ignatiev.

According to him, the Pridnestrovian party intends to discuss with Mayr-Harting the problem of Moldovan-Ukrainian customs posts on the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian border and travel ban for vehicles with Pridnestrovian license plates through Moldovan border checkpoints.

Since January 10, the Republic of Moldova unilaterally banned vehicles with PMR numbers from crossing Moldova's border checkpoints. At the same time, it is possible to drive from Pridnestrovie to Ukraine or Moldova with PMR license plates and with PMR driver’s license as before.

The PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev emphasized that Chisinau has taken those measures unilaterally without warning and in conditions when negotiations were ongoing.

“While we are negotiating, it is cynical to introduce some restrictions. Especially during the New Year holidays, creating problems for people. We demanded that Chisinau abandon this. And we has turned to our international partners,” the PMR Foreign Minister said in an interview with press representatives.

The Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe is one of the participants of the Permanent Meeting… on the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict in the 5 + 2 format (Pridnestrovie and Moldova are parties; Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE are mediators, the EU and the US are observers).
