The Presidents of Pridnestrovie and Moldova will discuss the situation around the Dubossary quarry

According to the PMR Foreign Minister, the aggravation of the situation around the quarry may threaten the life and safety of local residents

Tiraspol, October 25. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky plans to raise the issue of unauthorized establishment of a quarry in the Dubossary district at a meeting with his Moldovan counterpart, President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev. The meeting will be held on October 29 in the Golerkans.

The dispute over land in the Dubossary district arose at the end of July. The Moldovan entrepreneur began unauthorized establishment of a quarry for the extraction of sand and gravel on the lands that belong to the Pridnestrovian kitchen-garden community Dubossary Energetik.

At the end of August, there were clashes occurred between locals and representatives of the Moldovan company on this site.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR made a number of official statements and appeals at the diplomatic level. For its part, Moldova promised that land work would be suspended. The head of the OSCE Mission in Moldova Klaus Neukirch assured that no action would be taken to build a quarry, referring to the position of Chisinau. However, the Moldovan side did not fulfill the guarantees, and in October works on the quarry resumed.

“The works have not just resumed. The quarry has become deeper and larger. Power transmission lines were dismantled on an autonomous basis. All this threatens the lives of people who live in a gardening co-operative. If something happens, certain representatives must be held accountable,” PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev stated.
