Pridnestrovian scientists presented their development at PIIEF

Some of them have already been put into practice

Tiraspol, October 10. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. One of the VII Pridnestrovian International Investment Economic Forum sections, which was opened today, was entirely focused on the development of Pridnestrovian scientists. Pridnestrovian State University (PSU) and the Research Institute of Ecology and Natural Resources presented their works.

As the rector of PSU Stepan Beryl noted in his opening remarks, fundamental and applied sciences were “different sides of the same coin”. The projects presented at the section confirmed that once again.

The development of the State University was represented by Irina Tolmacheva, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation. According to her, this is only a small part of what the scientists of PSU created. Many of these projects have already been put into practice or have aroused interest among relevant ministries and departments. For example, the seeds of Indian sesame and milk thistle which were selected at the university are used by bakeries. It is sold for medicinal purposes and oil is made using them. There is another development in the field of pharmacology - a drug based on horseradish extract, which is much cheaper than antibiotics, but its effectiveness is not inferior to them.

University mathematicians created mathematical models for managing the energy system of our republic and improving the quality of serial production. Among the PSU developments, it is also worth noting the automatic hydrometeorological complex, which makes it possible to take up to a thousand measurements in five basic parameters in five minutes, remove the error and instantly transmit data. It was created by the research laboratory of the Rybnitsa branch. The automatic systems of Rybnitsa residents, created on approximately the same principle, has already been working at the local power companies and at one of the auto enterprises. The project for the processing of waste from the Moldavskaya GRES into a heavy-duty and inexpensive material for the construction of a roadway is close to implementation. Moreover, from the same waste, it is also possible to make road marking film.

Wastes of Moldavskaya GRES appeared also in another project, but developed at the Research Institute of Ecology and Natural Resources. Institute scientist Alexander Smirnov told about the separation of ash and slag from the burnt coal into fractions. In particular, this way you can get quite cheap silica, alumina. The latter one is a raw material for the production of aluminum. Presenting the results of his research, Alexander Smirnov emphasized that over 13 million tons of ash and slag waste had accumulated at Moldavskaya GRES.

The Research Institute presented two more interesting projects. The first one concerns the restoration of shelterbelts. Institute employee Natalya Kichuk suggested using black walnut as the basis for this. This type of tree is more unpretentious than walnut, which is usual for our places. In addition, it is fast-growing, but at the same time durable, and in addition also has valuable wood.

Another reforestation project concerned the treeline of pubescent oak creation. The scientist of the institute Alexander Ruschuk, who presented the results of the research, described this species as unpretentious and drought-tolerant. Moreover, these trees are able to attract groundwater. In this regard, the idea was expressed that the project could help farmers who were faced with the problem of irrigation. In addition, on plantations of pubescent oak about 250 species of plants could grow, including medicinal, also they could be home for many species of animals.
