Bendery, July, 29. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The peacekeeping mission on the Dniester is unique in its success. This was stated by the PMR Minister of Foreign Affairs Vitaly Ignatiev in an interview with journalists.
“We conducted a comparative analysis of peacekeeping operations, including the UN and NATO operations. Our peacekeeping operation is unique in all spheres, this experience, we believe, can be also used in other regions where there are conflicts. As part of this operation, the population perceives peacekeepers positively, there are no armed clashes, incidents or conflicts with the use of weapons. And, most importantly, there have been peace, stability and security on the banks of the Dniester for 27 years,” the head of the diplomatic department said.
He drew attention to the fact that the principles of that operation had been laid back in 1992. The Joint Peacekeeping Forces include military contingents of three parties: Russia, Moldova and Pridnestrovie. In 1998, Ukraine joined the operation, sending a group of military observers to the Security Zone of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict.
“It is in Pridnestrovie, on our land, that the military of Russia and Ukraine have the objective of preserving peace and security shoulder to shoulder,” the Minister pointed out.
According to him, the question of replacing a peacekeeping operation or its completion can be raised only after a complete settlement of the conflict.
