THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF RUSSIA ENCOURAGE TO HOLD MEETINGS IN THE 5+2 FORMAT REGULARLY

There have to be regular meetings in the 5+2 format at least 5-6 times a year. The Director of the All-European Cooperation Department of the MFA of Russia Andrey Kelin stated it in an interview to RIA Novosti.

«We appeal to hold the meetings in the 5+2 format regularly, five-six times a year as it is provided by the regulating documents. Such work allows to control a situation, to coordinate positions and to affect the efficiency of the negotiation process. In the statement adopted on the Ministerial Council OSCE in Milan (on December 6-7, 2018) the role of the 5+2 format as only internationally recognized negotiation platform on the Pridnestrovian settlement was once again allocated», - Kelin added.

Kelin also emphasized that close work with the Special Representative of the Acting Chairman of the OSCE on the Pridnestrovian settlement Franco Frattini and the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Claus Neukirch is conducted.

Also, the representative of the Russian MFA noted that in the 5+2 format it will be possible to start preparation of convocation of another meeting only after formation of the new Government of Moldova.

«Unfortunately, at the moment process of coordination of terms and the place of the next meeting slowed down a little as taking into account that the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Moldova Christina Lesnik who is the political representative in the 5+2 format for the law resigned till the parliamentary elections which are coming on February 24. Therefore it will be possible to start work on convocation of another meeting only after formation of the new Government of Moldova», - the diplomat said.
