Moscow, January, 22. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic representation in the capital of the Russian Federation officially began its activities. Participants in the opening ceremony of the representation included Russian politicians, parliamentarians and public figures, representatives of the embassies of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Nagorny-Karabakh, Pridnestrovians residing in the Russian Federation.

PMR President Vadim Krasnoselski said about the opening of the representative office as a significant event, fully corresponding to the position of Pridnestrovians, expressed in the course of the 2006 national referendum.

He drew attention to the fact that the need for representation was long overdue, and noted that the resumption of its activity is provided by PMR Development Strategy for 2019-2026

“The Center will become a practical tool for implementing of individual provisions of the Strategy 2019-2026, in the text of which the international positioning of Pridnestrovie is directly dependent on the nature and foreign policy contacts development level” - the press service of the head of state stresses.

Another important aspect reflected in the program document is the creation of a systemic mechanism for working with compatriots living abroad (the PMR representative office in Moscow is intended to become its significant element).

Referring to the text of the Strategy, Vadim Krasnoselski reminded that it formulated the state idea of Pridnestrovie, which is based on three aspects - the striving for independence of the Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic with subsequent recognition and implementation of the referendum results, strengthening “Pridnestrovian people” community and building a socially oriented state with a market economy.

The President also spoke about the historical ties linking Russia and Pridnestrovie, as well as about Pridnestrovian-Russian interaction directions. These are peacekeeping, politics (Russia being a guarantor power in the negotiation process), cultural, educational, humanitarian cooperation, and also economy (according to Vadim Krasnoselski, the Russian Federation is a strategic partner of Pridnestrovie).

The head of the Pridnestrovian state also commented on the information component of the interaction. Here PMR President noted the well-informed Pridnestrovian people about the life of Russia, and the lack of awareness of the Russians about Pridnestrovian realities.

“In this regard, the representation has a special role. This will be a contact center not only with the Russians, but also with representatives of other friendly states” - Vadim Krasnoselski emphasized.

The head of Pridnestrovie drew attention to the candidacy of the representative office head. In coordination with the Commission of the PMR Supreme Council on international relations, Leonid Manakov was appointed to this position.

An experienced jurist, he headed Pridnestrovian criminal police in the mid-90s, served as first Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the PMR. He is currently Vice-President of the Russian Lawyers Guild.

The President of the PMR handed over to the head of the representative office the corresponding certificate

The President of the PMR presented corresponding certificate to the head of the representative office.

“May I express my gratitude for the honour you gave me. Today’s event is a major event for the whole Pridnestrovie. I assure you that I will exert maximum efforts for the representative office productive work and the high-quality implementation of the tasks set by the country's leadership” - Leonid Manakov said.

The Representative Office of the PMR is located in the center of Moscow - 11 Povarskaya Street, office No. 35 (Arbat district). Apart from the staff members of the institution, official meetings and events, including the reception of citizens, will be held at this site during working visits to Moscow by the President of the Pridnestrovian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of the executive and legislative branches of power of the republic.

The Pridnestrovian representative office first appeared in Moscow in 2005. Its functions were then assigned to the "Pridnestrovie" Cooperation Center - a public organization officially registered in the territory of the Russian Federation. From the beginning of 2012, the activity of this structure was discontinued, however, the republic’s need for representation remained. This is confirmed by the numerous appeals of Pridnestrovian citizens staying in Russia. To date, considerable preparatory work has been carried out to start the activities of the Official Representative Office of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR.

In accordance with the Russian legislation norms, a legal form was chosen in the form of a public organization - the Pridnestrovie Social and Cultural Relations Development Fund. The official representation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in the capital of the Russian Federation has the status of the Pridnestrovian foreign mission, being a structural unit of Pridnestrovie diplomatic service bodies system.

Its tasks include assisting Pridnestrovian residents in building cultural, humanitarian, socio-economic and other ties, maintaining direct contacts with the authorities in Moscow, interacting with public organizations, exchanging information, and integrating Pridnestrovian culture into Russia and the world. Important is the diplomatic component of the activities, as well as functions related to the expansion of trade, economic and financial ties, the promotion of Pridnestrovian goods and services to the international market.
