Tiraspol, 25 July. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Tiraspol customs officers seized about 600 kg of meat products which was illegally imported from Ukraine, the State Customs Service's press service reports.
A Tiraspol businessman knew about the current ban on the importation of such goods into Pridnestrovie in connection with the outburst of African swine fever in Ukraine but nevertheless illegally supplied it to Tiraspol's central market.
The smuggler's vehicle was stopped near the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian border. Over 200 kg of sausage products, which were illegally brought from Ukraine, was found under the front seats of the car and in the luggage compartment.
"The search of a warehouse situated in the basement of a market building, which was leased by this citizen, showed that the illegal import of goods was regular. There was over 370 kg of meat products that were imported into the republic without declaration. The owner of the goods explained that he had bought them at Odessa's market to further sell the products in Pridnestrovie," noted the SCC.
The offender faces an administrative penalty for not declaring goods and concealing them from customs control. Taking into account that nearly all the products are banned from being imported to the PMR, the entrepreneur will be obliged to take it back to Ukraine.
The State Customs Committee reminds citizens that in connection with the unfavorable epizootic situation in Moldova and Ukraine caused by African swine fever, and also in order to prevent the penetration of disease into Pridnestrovie, a ban on the import of a number of commodity items, including ready-made meat products, has been introduced and is still in effect.
