Tiraspol, 19 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The overwhelming majority of voters in Pridnestrovie - 96.4% - cast their votes for Vladimir Putin during the Russian presidential election that was held last Sunday.
The Central Election Commission of the PMR (CEC) also reported a high turnout: 73,947 citizens took part in voting.
According to the head of the CEC, this is the highest voter turnout ever shown in Pridnestrovie during Russian elections. For comparison, during the previous presidential election in 2012, the turnout amounted to 50,365 with 85% of voters supporting Vladimir Putin. In 2016, 55,693 Russian citizens living in Pridnestrovie took part in Russia's State Duma elections.
Eighty-seven public observers, delegated by Russia's Public Chamber, monitored the election. Not a single complaint or violation was recorded by Prodnestrovie's CEC, the Russian embassy in Moldova and election commissions.
